I always thought that leadership is easy because it is only about leading others.
I thought, it is easy to be a “Great Leader”.😅
But leadership is leading yourself first before leading others. You cannot effectively lead others when you are not disciplined because people will feel you can’t be trusted. And when people feel you can’t be trusted because they see you as incompetent, they won’t follow you (unless they only follow you because you have the title).
I also thought, to be a very great leader is to always create followers. But I was wrong!
I came to realise that becoming a great leader is to develop another leader as what John Maxwell explained in his book Developing the Leaders Around You.
Not all teammates in your organization will become a leader.
I learned is that every leader must learn to identify and groom new leaders from within your organization.
This is a very important skill to develop overtime.
Most of the times, you will assume that you found another person that you can train as a leader but when they are tested with challenges, they lose it because they cannot handle the responsibility.
Your second lesson of leadership is to develop other leaders.
However, that is easier said than done!
A lot of people will never train someone, because they are afraid they will be replaced when someone becomes better than them.
That’s entirely a wrong mindset! And that is NOT the mindset of a great leader!
A Great Leader develops leaders around him. A Great Leader shares his wisdom, lessons he acquired from his years of experience. A Great Leader inspires others to become better version of themselves.
Do you want to be a Great Leader?
Then develop other leaders around you!
