First Lesson of Leadership
There was once a story of a mom who wanted her son to stop eating candies.
She is unable to convince her child to do so.
One day, she heard that an enlightened monk was nearby who can help solve almost every problem there is.
She took her child and when they met the monk, she asked the monk to tell her son to stop eating candies.
The monk paused, and later said, “Come back after one month!”
After one month, she came back with her son and met the monk again.
The monk smiled, looked at the child in the eye and said:
“Young man, do as your mom tells you to do, stop eating candies.”
The mom was angry and said:
“That's it? Why didn't you tell him that last month?”.
The monk replied, “Because last month, I couldn't stop eating candies myself.”
Your first lesson of leadership is SELF-LEADERSHIP. To lead yourself first.
If you cannot lead yourself, how would you expect to lead others?
Anyone who wanted to be a leader must develop their leadership skills because people are attracted to strong leaders.
A lot of people wanted to be a leader. A lot of people also think they are leaders because they “know” stuffs (they are only Thinkers, not Leaders😅).
A lot of people “elevate” themselves to be leaders because they have the “title” (according to John Maxwell, this is the lowest form of Leadership, being a Positional Leader).
However, they can’t even lead themselves. And they will be having problem gaining respect. Because it will become obvious that they are only doing “lip-service”.
Real leaders have results because they are what they preach! Their words are reflected on their actions.
Do you consider yourself a leader?
