How many of you have experienced being lazy to do the things that you are supposed to do?
I have experienced it many many many times.
There are many reasons and here are the things I can enumerate:
Burnout - I wrote an article how to reduce this
Lost interest or motivation
You found the work meaningless
You are having personal health problems (ie. lack of energy)
Overwhelmed of the number of tasks
One reason that I can think of that applies to me is #5.
Because there’s just too many things to do, that I don’t know what to do anymore.
I want to accomplish a whole lot of stuffs and in the end, I accomplish nothing.
Have you experienced that?
In trying to complete a whole lot of things, the side effect is that, I became lazy.
Too much “cognitive load” on my brain.
One day, I realised I had to do something about it and started to search “how to overcome laziness” or “how to overcome procrastination”.
I found the solution, The 2-minute rule!
And it is very simple.
Just list down all the tasks that you need to do on a piece of paper and choose the task that can be completed in less than 2 minutes.
That’s it!
If there’s no task that can be completed in 2 minutes, choose the task that is the easiest.
If still none, break down the task into smaller things.
Example:
Task: Clean the house.
Note: The house is big, you have the living room, the bed room, the kitchen, the home office, etc
Obviously, cleaning any of these would take you more than 2 minutes.
Let us say, let’s choose to clean the “home office” (if you have). You have the dusty cabinet, the table, the trash bin, the floor, etc.
Maybe, just clean or arrange your own table. For sure you can quickly just arrange the papers.
Once you start with that, have already started your own momentum.
Try it. Follow the 2-minute rule!
Till next time! 👍
