This is going to be the 6th article that I am writing.
If you have read all my bite-size articles:
… I would assume that you have already found your motivations why you want to become better and why you want to improve yourself.
Congratulations! 👏👏👏
Now is the right time to ask “Where do I even begin?”🤔
Warning!
The self-development or personal development domain is such a broad topic!
When I started my journey, I made a commitment to myself to persevere, no matter what! Make 1% improvement, small change, baby steps! In Japanese, this is KAIZEN!
Kaizen is a Japanese term which means continuous improvement. The term I learned when I attended a conference in Hong Kong in 2012!
I read as many books and self-help guide as I could, attended as many seminars and workshops as I could, attended as many talks and conferences as I could. In that way I could speed up to become better.
I estimated I have spent over $50,000 for my personal development from Singapore, to Philippines, to Hong Kong, to Korea, to United States! 😱
It has helped me, and met a lot of interesting people along the way.
However, instead of speeding up the process, it actually slowed me down because I was tempted to learn as many things as I can, that I end up becoming what we call a “seminar—ian” (someone who always attend seminars but does not apply the learnings 😂😂😂)
The technique to speed up the process in becoming better is not to become a “seminar—ian” but to apply all the learnings in your daily life!
Even applying one (1) learning can change the trajectory of your life!
Don't seek perfection, because if you do you will never get somewhere!
🦆 & 🦅
There was a story of two ducks. One day, they saw an eagle flying. They were so amazed how high the Eagle fly.
The first duck said, one day we can fly like him. For many days, they observed the Eagle and one day, to their surprise the Eagle landed near them.
They quickly approached the Eagle and said, “Hey mighty Eagle, you are awesome! We want to learn to fly like you. Please teach us.” And the Eagle agreed.
The Eagle taught them how to fly. At first, both ducks were struggling. They tried and failed many times. But they didn't give up because they were so determined.
After a week they learned to fly! They were so excited and thanked the Eagle.
Then the Eagle told them, “You can now go home.”
And the ducks went home - walking…
The ducks already learned to fly, but when they went home, they walk instead🤦♂️
Don’t be the duck!
I hope this has been helpful to you and have given you some insights how to become better.
